This series is inspired by my favourite childhood book "Red Is Best" by Kathy Stinson. Created using a Drypoint printmaking technique of scratching into a plexiglass plate and adding red Japanese paper with a process called Chinne Colle this is the start of a collection of prints with a traditional or retro feel. The series started with a ladybug using a large dominate red shape in the centre. This lady bug inspired other ideas and themes that would follow the same format and template.
The most trilling and exciting moment for a printmaker is when you pull back the paper to reveal the printed piece that you have worked so hard to create. This is called "the reveal". Every reveal is not a success but the anticipation of seeing how it turned out is always there.
Although the series started with simple items that spoke to me I soon realized that there was a bigger underlaying theme. Many of my chosen subjects have symbolism or meaning giving them a greater emotional connection and underlying inspirational message.
This series is only in it's infancy and there are many more concepts that I have yet had the chance to materialize. If you have a connection to any of these pieces or any subject ideas that you think would work with the series please feel free to add them to the comment section below.
